Panchet Dam is built on river Damodar. It is geographically located in West Bengal, near to Asansol town. it is almost 50-55 km away from Dhanabd and a journey of around 5 hours from Kolkata.
I visited this place with my friends from Dhanbad. The dam is connecting Bengal and jharkhand which is almost 4 km long. We went there by car and also took bicycles with us. It was a nice experience to ride the bicycle on the dam.
The place is quite peaceful and the atmosphere is quite different than that of Asansol and Dhanbad. I liked the air which is free from pollution and not dry like coal city Dhanbad.
There is a lush green flower garden and we spent some time there too. The park is quite spacious and we liked the ambiance. We were hungry after a long cycling, so gorged on some snacks in the food stalls inside the park. There was a lake where you can enjoy boat riding too. I saw some families with their kids enjoying the boat ride.
There is ancient temple built with burnt soil( Terracotta) which is nice place to click some photos.
But, most memorable part of this trip was to see the sun set from the dam in the evening, it was really made all of us amazed! The nature looked so beautiful!
We stayed up to 5.30 and it was dark by this time in winter. On the way back, we ate in the famous Khalsa hotel, near to Govinpur.
There is a guest house managed by West Bengal Government for tourists staying there over night. You need to book room well in advance there.Another private resort is also located near by, which provides more facilities like wi fi etc.
if you are just tired of monotonous city life, just take a day off and spend a nice and quiet day out exploring Panchet Dam, you will like it.
