This movie has been made on a lesser budget than sanjay leela bhansali’s Devdas, but it has made a similar impact on me. even though the actors aren’t top-of-the-line, I feel that they have put in an excellent performance.
Saif Ali Khan
This actor has GROWN and made gigantic leaps in terms of acting after this movie. He was good in Hum Tum, but he took like a fish to water in this role as Shekhar. his anger, his jealousy, everything.. was expressed magnificently, just like a top actor should.
Vidya Balan
First time actress? No one could guess unless they saw the casting which says ’’introducing Vidya Balan’’. this girl doesn’t have a glamourous look like our top actresses, but she definitely has a certain air of innocence and charm which grows on the viewer. seeing the trailors, I wasn’t too impressed by her frankly. but after watching the movie, I respect her. she has done complete justice to Lolita’s role.
Sunjay Dutt
what more can I say for this established actor? as usual, he has put in his 101% and has achieved that effect. excellent.
the rest of the actors were very good too. diya mirza was convincing as Gayatri Tantiya, as so was Raima Sen as Koel.
I feel that the casting in this movie was well done. many movies flop because of the miscasting. but this one should do well.
also, my mother read the book (original Bengali novel) and she told me that this movie has followed most of the book. this is how a movie should be, to restore the originality of the novel. not modified.
i’d recommend this movie to mature viewers, young or old. it leaves u with a nice feeling. there’s a happy ending so those who love romantic movies with happy endings, go watch it!!!
oh and this movie has really good music. kudos to the first time music director!!!
