What a transformation for Saif Ali Khan. From the confused Desi in Dil Chahta Hai to the loverboy of Hum Tum and the carefree musician of Parineeta, he has definitely made a huge impact.
Parineeta is a story of a soft-hearted boy who lets the orphaned Lolita access to his pocket money and eventually his heart, but fails to understand the nefarious designs of his father who is only interested in personal gains all the time. This proves costly for Lolita and her family who have to pass through turbulent times.
The portrayal of Lolita by Vidya Balan needs special mention. Vidya is a fresh unadulterated face that is going to lit up the Bollywood scene. She has this ever-smiling countenance that few in the industry can match. Her blood-red eyes when she blocks Saifs way in the opening scene reveals the extent to which the actress has got under the skin of Lolita.
Some of the highlights of the movie are the rich voice of Saifs father, Diya Mirzas Cameo role, the comical role of Saifs studio orchestra friend and the acting of Koela.
Above all these is the role of Sanjay Dutt who is quite happy these days doing support roles with substance. As the rich yet earthly Girish, he is the pivot of this movie.
Watch the movie for Vidhu Vinod Chopras ability to create a whole new world on cinema screen.
