Call it an uncouth effort loaded with mind-numbing violence. Term it a tender tale of a rash male and a mature female. Dismiss it as an exaggeration of little
incidents. But surely the flavour of rural lives catches you unaware while watching “ParuthiVeeran”.
For the general public obsessed with box-office numbers and attractive film hoardings, the
movie comes as a real surprise. Little known names, first-time hero and heroine, excessive use of abusive words and overt exhibition of knives; have all come together to present a cocktail of emotions. An earnest effort dedicated to the rural folks, director Ameer depicts the sordid life of an
ordinary individual in the backdrop of his dear ones.
Deprived of motherly affection and elderly care, the protagonist – *Karthi, * grows up to be a
rough personality – someone who enjoys the sight of blood!!! Ushering in an element of belonging, the hero is much attached to his childhood playmate –obviously the lead actress. Treading a path of group rivalry, crime, alcoholism and sex, the story picks momentum in the second half.
In between,
dreams of a young girl and negligence of an irresponsible yet compassionate youth overlap to create some fine moments on screen. Even the background score and songs match the intensity of the script. Finally, as marriage dreams begin to glitter, the so-called “cruel hand of fate” snaps away the jubilation. Still,
beware of gore and extreme cruelty.
Then, not every week does such cinemas with fresh ideas and a whiff of reality hit the cinema
halls. And when it happens, let’s not miss it.
