They treat patients like cattle

Patankar Maternity Hospital, opp. Saras baug, Pune.

September 5th 2009:

It was my 8th week of pregnancy. The feotus had no heartbeat till the 7th week.

I went to Patankar hospital for the first time. I had taken prior appointment for 12:30 pm and reached there at 12 pm. I was attended by Dr. Leena Pathankar only at 2:30 pm. Since there was no heart activity in the previous ultrasound, she advised me to go for another ultrasound immediately. There was no one to do the ultrasound at Patankar hospital, so she told us to go to Patil plaza and come back with the report. She assured us that she will be in the hospital even if the OPD is closed.

The ultrasonologist told us that the feotus is bad and we’ll have to get the pregnancy terminated. We were broken and went back to Patankar hospital with the report. Dr. Leena Patankar did not even care to come and see our report or talk to us at such a time when we needed some assurance. The junior doctors/interns scheduled the D&C and asked me report at the hospital at 7am on 7th Sept 2009. As directed I was fasting since 6th Night and reported at the hospitalon 7th morning. The hospital staff was rude and I had to wait till 11:30 am for the operation. This means that I was without food and water for more than 12 hours.

I was administered General anesthesia, though D&E can be performed under Local anesthesia. I was operated on by Dr. Amit Patankar. After operation, I was discharged in the evening. But the worst experience was still to come.

A month after the operation, On 10th October, I had pain in the abdomen. I was restless all night. In the morning at 6 am, after going to the loo, it became severe and we had to go to the hospital. Not sure if will be attended well at Patankar hospital, we went to Ratna Memorial hospital on SB road. There I was attended by the casualty staff and adviced to take injection for pain and then come again for the Ultrasound. I opted not to take any pain killers till the diagnosis was made. Ultrasound revealed that there was some fluid collection in the uterus. The uterus was very tender and I could not bear the pain during the trans-vaginal ultrasound. When we knew that the pain was related to uterus, we tried to reach Dr. Amit Patankar, but the hospital staff did not connect us to him, despite the fact that we told them it was an emergency. It was 10 am by now and my pain had increased.

In the same condition we drove to Patankar hospital. By that time my periods had started. At the hospital I was attended only by a junior doctor, who said that the pain was NORMAL! Despite our repeated requests, Dr. Amit did not show up.He kept sitting in the OPD. Frustrated, I climbed down the stairs to reach the crowded and conjusted OPD and shouted at Dr.Amit for the bad treatment. I never went back to Patankar hospital again.

I went back home and took the pain killer which was prescribed to me after the D&E. That made my pain tolerable and we took appointment for the evening from Dr.Rath who is a consultant at Nandadeep hospital on FC road. Dr. Rath examined me and told that a clot is stuck at the uterus opening which is causing the pain. He prescribed a medicine to remove it. He also gave some antibiotics and told us that the D&E will have to be repeated in case the clot is not removed by the medicines. Fortunately the medicines worked and I felt fine the next day.

In short, at Patankar Hospital

-You will be treated like cattle.

-Only junior doctors will attend to you incase of emergency.

-None of the documents like discharge report or prescription is signed by the Patankars, all are signed by junior doctors to keep the Pathankars safe in case of any legal action.

Thanks
