I always say if Robin Williams makes a film its never kind of rubbish.Besides being a comedian character Williams always reveals useful and winsome messages for the spectator.Patch Adams is a kind of this one which dominantly contains messages about Medicine and patients, which im interested too because of being a doctor, but presents some subtle quotes which are relevant with whole of us...
Williams plays a passionate medicine student whose main purpose is to amaze the patients beside trying to cure them.He thinks the doctors’ basic mission is to help patients to ameloriate their life quality and behave them as much as sincere and cure them besides these major aims...
Monica Potter plays his girlfriend, Carren, who is killed later by one of their lunatic patients.After all, the dean of the medicine faculty attempts to fire him of the university because of helping patients in his own home who cant pay for their traetment...The last part of the film tells about the court for Patch advocating himself in front of a medical council and surviving it...
The film includes many vital quotes besides giving crucial messages and lessons.For instance it was so interesting when the dean said ’’We are raising you to be doctors of being high quality persons and to be unreachable’’...Believe me, almost all of the doctors especially the professors see themselves like this ’’of high quality and unreachable’’;this film is a real goal scored in their net!!!Because it says we shouldnt be unreachable, we should be the servers and helpers of the patients who behave warm and modest and moreover who give the major therapy with a simple laugh.
In another conversation in the film, just after Patch’s girlfriend gets killed Patch says to his friend, in a given up manner, ’’Do u know that humans are the only species who kill their own kind?’’.An interesting quote to remind us that how much we harm ourselves, actually to remind us that our real foes are again ourselves...
There are many more quotes to mention but these are the ones I remember at the moment.As is said there is a major point presented which is about what the doctors should be and what the doctor-patient relation should be...Its simply expressed that doctors should try to become friends of the patients and should not consider themselves creatures of ’’precious and high humanbeings who are mad for label’’ and not try to build the distance between themselves and the patients to a degree unreachable.Because regardless of our educations, our backgrounds and all our brilliant labels we are same in basic and we are the only ones to help eachother...
The second and minor message is given with conjunction of the first one.Death is an end which all of us will encounter and no matter how much we try to delay it and how much therapy and treatment we administer it will come and find the patient finally.The most important point is to cheer up the patient and lessen his or her pain regardless of the result of the treatment and possibly reduce the fear and pain of death...
