I booked a flight from Chennai to Jeddah(Airline:Emirates) for 30th Jan 2016 for Rs.16380 for my cousin. My booking was done on 14th Jan 2016. This is a non-refundable ticket(only taxes will be refunded.tax amount approx 8000).
Then I contacted Emirates to confirm the ticket. To my surprise, they said that the booking is valid only for customers holding valid Umrah visa. Paytm has not displayed this information while booking. In fact there is a drop down to select your visa type while booking. As I selected Employee visa, Paytm should not have allowed me to make the booking. But they allowed me to make my payment.
I asked Emirates to cancel the ticket. But they asked me to cancel it using Paytm.
So I cancelled the ticket on 15th Jan 2016 in Paytm App and contacted the customer care. They said that the ticket is canceled and the amount will be refunded by 30th Jan on No Show case. I was confused, So I contacted Emirates the next day and asked them. They said that the ticket is not yet cancelled and in case of No show, there is no refund. And they asked me to cancel it from Paytm end, and I will get the refund.
But I asked the Paytm guys to cancel it and asked the amount of refund I will get. But they said that it cannot be cancelled from their end and asked me to contact Easemytrip. They neither told me the refund amount. I talked with Easemytrip and they said they cannot cancel it and asked me to contact Emirates. This fight went on for 2 days and they never cancelled my ticket.
The logic here is, If they cancel the ticket, they will not get commission money from Airlines and the customer will get the taxes as refund(approx 8000 INR). But if the ticket is cancelled on No show, then they get a commission(customer gets only INR 250). So they refused to cancel from their end to make business out of it. I am still fighting with them to cancel the ticket.
As it is a mistake from Paytm(they should not allow me to book that ticket with employee visa), I would request you get my full money back. Also they refused to cancel the ticket. Please I need your help.
Update: Finally got the refund today from Paytm after lot of struggle.
