Yeh Dil Maange More....
With some dazzling advertisements Pepsi stole many a heart of Indians. No wonder India remains one of the strong fortes of Pepsi. They selected best of India to sell water mixed with chemicals and flavours, natural or otherwise. The heartthrobs of silverscreens from Shahrukh Khan and magician of cricket bat Sachin Tendulkar all have only one recommendation to the one seventh of the world population, Drink Pepsi. After watching Shahrukhs snake magician advertisement I tried to drink a lot of pepsi but no girls were wearing Pepsi T shirts and there had no chance of some Pepsi stripping fortunes. Being a Ganguly fan than Tendulkar fan, I preferred Coca Cola to Pepsi. Then Ganguly was been targeted when Pepsi stars were on their glory way. I thought, probably if I drink some Pepsi and pray for Ganguly it may help him to get some good fortune, but it didnt work. Then I really wanted to test the Pepsi effect in cricket for myself, which is helping Sachin Tendulkar to score century after century by simply drinking Pepsi. One fine day I took 3 small cans of Pepsi and went out to play cricket. No Pepsi gods came to improve my regular score of duck out. The vegetarian guy scored some sixes out of my bowling and started advising me about soft-dangers and the benefits of drinking lassi. I said enough...
I like the Pepsi advertisements than the Pepsi itself. Their advertisements are creative and affective. They cast best of stars and present it better way. The only problem is that I cannot drink these advertisements. Still, it is movie time that I best attempt on Pepsi. Then, they did some stupid advertisement as well, that is to promote small bottle of pepsi. They were so stupid to defame their brand to sell saying now we sell less for the same money. Nokia did the same mistake in another way in an advertisement. Anyway, both learned from their experience.
When Coca Cola Company refuse to give a discount on syrup to Charles Guth, the president of Loft Inc they must have never thought that they are throwing some energy drink to a competitor. Loft Inc purchased the assets of the 2nd time bankrupt PEPSI company assets and reworked on the syrup formula to create a new brand and gave a difficult competition to Coca Cola.
As per wiki information, In the United States, Pepsi is made with carbonated water, high fructose corn syrup, caramel color, sugar, Phosphoric acid, caffeine, citric acid and natural flavors. That mention does imply that the ingredients in other countries can be different. I am not sure it is the same Pepsi we are talking about. The initial recipe of Pepsi Cola neither contained Caffeine or Cola. It was Brads drink earlier and later it was added with Pepsin and Kola nuts. While Pepsin is more helping the digestive system and as per my search not so much minus points, the Kola affect is something I am not sure about. In the Kola nut, there is an element of Ophylline which is said to be a methylxanthine drug used in therapy for respiratory diseases such as COPD and Asthma under a variety of brand names. Because of its numerous side-effects, the drug is now rarely administered for clinical use. (Wiki info) If the content is still there in Pepsi, I think it is a worrying point. Well, Tea and Coffee etc. too have the caffeine and Ophylline etc. then the dosage of its use and the temperatures it is delivered may need to be tested for its affect on human body.
The positive side of Pepsi drinking is supply of lot of energy and carbohydrates to the body. If our body is ready to consume more energy and carbohydrates which may keep you awake for long, Pepsi may be an ok drink for you. The damages of Pepsi drink is a matter of dispute though it is a general public conclusion that it is not that good for healthy life style.
Limiting the scope of this review to my experience about Pepsi let me say it short. I didnt find the taste of Pepsi, as wow. It is just ok, nothing special about it. It is better served chilled. A normal temperature Pepsi has a bad taste. Pepsi kept in open room but in closed bottle is a sure torture and it may even harm your stomach without notice. In Indian condition, these are really worrying point where many a shops didnt have cooling system. I may like to have a half glass of chilled pepsi with food as it adds some taste to food and helps digestion. In a hot summer day after a noon walk I may drink a small bottle of Pepsi, otherwise I am not a fan of Pepsi and my recommendation of it is limited to extreme fans.
PS: Since government is yet to ask Pepsi Company to put a label in the cover to the affect that Pepsi drinking is injurious to health or Poison and the modern Gandhi and co is yet to start a drinking strike against foreign drinks including Pepsi, I am recommending it. The day government issues an order to that effect or if the modern Gandhi start talking against Pepsi, do remind me to change my recco.
