Pepsi - the bane of today's youth

Pepsi is Pepsico’s flagship product. The company owns several brands across many countries and uses an aggressive advertising strategy to boost sales. It has fast caught on in India and particularly targets the urban youth of the country.

Pepsi is essentially a carbonated beverage and its nutritional value is zilch. It destroys the enamel on your teeth and leaves you with an acid taste in the mouth.

However in this respect it scores over coca-cola and thums up, which are even more acidic.

Pepsi has roped in sportsmen like Sachin Tendulkar and actresses like Priyanka Chopra and Kareena Kapoor to sell their wares in India. Actually this is a faux pas since as mentioned before this drink does little to quench thirst, rather it leaves you belching and burping after having a glassful.

In the United States there has been an initiative, particularly in the state of California, to ban soft drinks in schools. This is because of the deleterious effect of these soft drinks on public health. As against this, the company is driving to increase its market share in India and increase its consumer base.

Pepsi contains both caffeine and sugar. This proves that it is a deadly cocktail of harmful substances.

Pepsi is packaged in bottles of varying sizes and materials and in cans. The price at which it is sold varies depending on the outlet where it is purchased. For example, in five star hotels and multiplexes it is generally sold at an inflated price.

Pepsi’s chief competitor worldwide is Coke. On an average it sells lesser than the latter.

Pepsi as a drink is particularly bad for Indians, as Indians are prone to obesity. Not that it helps anyone else either.

Pepsi has tried to develop it’s consumer base in india without mentioning the ill effects of having it. In fact there should be a statutory warning associated with the drink that informs of its deleterious effects.

I would definately not recommend this, particularly to young children.
