If u can walk ur talk, u can do it all!
The stylish lass from Lee Strassburg Theatre of arts, NY has taken quite a few interesting steps from her dads poultry farm to performing arts. The classy caucasian looks, husky voice, slim n tall frame n svelte personality fall completely out of sorts with the conventional Hindi movie heroine looks but she has done some reasonably good movies with improving performance with each movie.
I found her character of Jenny [Joggers Park] to be by far the best I have seen of her, probably because it resembles her personality in some way.The movie-Joggers Park was also an untrodden path for Hindi cinema although it had a lousy ending.
I always feel the concept of cross-over/ New-age cinema is driven not by the scripts or directors but rather the actors.Conventional Hindi romanticism or action/drama fails to impress a mass audience unless u have either sex or Shah Rukh Khan in the movie. I am mentioning this at the risk of sounding cliche, but its a fact once stated by a certain forgetable actress(...I cant remember her name...).We cant stand watching 800 couples falling in love n then the hero bashing up the villians to rescue the princess every year!
We need real stories and real people can play the chracters in these real stories more convincingly.Barring a few actors such as Aamir and Shah Rukh , others try to project themselves as larger than life (notice the braun in Sanjay Dutt, or Anil Kapoors electrified head).
Perizaad represnts one such real person-the normal urban Indian girl who is a stroke in the fast wheels of metro life. She represents the modern woman in an anti-pseudo-moralistic fashion.
Hypocrisy n voluptiousness is out, Hedonism n femme fatale is in...
