A fit for your wallet

Honesty is the policy of Peter England and so the brand is fast entering the B School Books as a case on the strategy for the right product, which became a hit with the Indian Market. Prior to its arrival, we had a huge gap in the shirt segment with the top line taken by brands like Van Heusen and Raymonds and the lower segment by Vimal, S Kumars, Local Shirts and the stitched Segment.

Peter England was conceived as a middle label as a complement to the lower end products of Allen Solly, but soon spun into a brand itself. Thus if you had noticed, Peter England’s first launches where denim shirts and Check line

Ok... so much for the history behind the Peter England Brand. A review on the pros and the cons follows

Pros:

  1. Covers many a segment - Informals, Checks, Stripes and Solids

  2. Solids of Peter England, (especially Dark Blue and Marron), go well with black trousers and always given me a good fit. I frequently use the blue shirt with a blazer.

  3. Informals - I owe a light green, White and a yellowish tint. This may seem very odd, but the shirts go well with my blue denims. The quality of the informals is quite good, as I have the white one for more than 3 years now

  4. Checks - I have one, the only complaint, I have is that it looks more informal than formal.

  5. The quality of the shirts is quite impressive and I have been having no problems in the last 3 years. Considering the amount of strain my shirts take, it has been quite an endeavour and I have taken a liking for the shirts for this. In contrast I lost colour on a Raymonds within 2 years on the same ’’Test’’ conditions

Cons:

  1. Colours - I havent found one shop in chennai and Mumbai that has a great vareity of colours in PE. I think they skip a lot of colours and stick to standard colours. They should seriously consider introduction of a new range

  2. Denim shirt will complement the other shirts

  3. Many of the PE shirts have the collar buttons and there are very less pieces without this option. My dad avoids the collar buttons and I had trouble getting a shirt for him

Recommendation

Medium Price (400 - 600): You will not get a better bet

Category - Students

If you have a little more to spend ....consider

formals - van heusen and raymonds. I would prefer raymonds as they suit me better than VH

informals - Allen Solly, no competition here...
