Great name, mediocre brand

Peter England is from Madura Coats, the same people who has given us Louis Philippe, Van Heusen, Allen Solly and San Frisco.

Talking about shirts, the fabric is good and ideal for the warmer Indian weather. The poly-cotton blends are comfortable and light, but watch out for those super-thin ones that might reveal the brand [and those holes] on your vest :)

When it comes to designs, good options are few and that’s the worst thing with this brand. Most of the patterns, especially the checks, resemble those below INR 100 ones you find hanging in street markets, and wouldn’t live up to the medium range price which hovers between INR 350 (very rare to find one) and 600. On a few occasions I had seen some excellent design-color combinations on shop windows only to discover that my size (the common 40) was not available.

The Celebration series - which are plains available in a multitude of colors - were being sold recently at 3 for INR 999. Should I thinks that they couldn’t sell the shirts otherwise.

The Elements sub-brand is for thicker casuals which come in much better colors and checks. I would recommend Elements for casual checks.

Trouser-wise, the shapes are good but the fabric is most often thin and light.

I am not prejudiced against Peter England, but have a try only if you have the time to dig out a good design. If you have more money to spare try the premium brands like Louis Phillipe and Van Heusen. I can assure you that you wouldn’t regret it.
