Open lid type comes for a debate-

I divide my review into two divisions. One is details of product in short and another is my experiences with the product with my conclusion.

  1. A portable set, convenient to carry it anywhere like your friends place to have a good time on lazy sundays. It supports many formats like DVD R/RW+-, CD RW, R, VCD, ACD, MP3, Jpeg images and so its seems a steal at 4k.But it lacks WMA, DivX, DVD audio playback which is of negligible use in our country. It even lets you to browse through the images on disc when listening to songs in background. Its absolutely easy to set up & space saving. It can be connected to TV using normal audio, video cables or composite video cable. You ca connect to an amplifier using a digital coaxial jack. The remote control is light with 33 keys and is quite responsive and easy to use.

  2. The picture quality was good and clear. Having only the coaxial jack for digital 5.1 output , getting home theatre for good playback is little bit cozy for this model. After using this player trouble free for 10 months the lens got struck up.So even the top open lid may be advantageous for removing DVD at times of power cut, there comes the disadvantage, for the loading and unloading the disk with this arrangement can damage the lens, if not used too delicate. So the open tray type where the lens is not exposed may be better when compared with this issue.

One thing to appreciate Philips is that its worldwide guarantee service. You can get your spares replaced at no cost at your guarantee period. Also you can pay Rs.390 at time of your service and get one more year extended guarantee period.

So finally, (check)if this model is upgraded to a type with tray open arrangement, then it would be the best out of the portables at good cost.
