Philips DVP 320- DVD Player for Indian homes

Well..if you are planning to buy a DVD player right now and don’t do much of video formats and electronic gadget specifications like me, these points might help you make your decision.

I bought this DVD player @ 3500 bucks from Better Deals electronics, Delhi...quite cheap in its category with Philips being the owner (They certainly save some money as they own most of the patent licenses for DVD player-disc technology and I guess other companies end up paying royalty to them) and its always good to buy from the source.

I find this device quite handy and useful. It is really COMPACT and could easily be carried around to any place in a small bag. It has 2x to 32x skipping capabilities which is pretty much what we require for our regular home viewing. Audio output is pretty good as well. It starts off from where you stopped, if you do not have the power switched off(kind of in the volatile memory).

Things I do not like in this product is the LACK OF FEATURE BUTTONS ON THE PLAYER, you owe to depend a lot on the remote control for all functions other than play and stop. Secondly, its tray opens upwards at the top and the CD holder cabin requires some effort to be put in to pluck the CD out of the cabin as it gets hooked onto a circular rotator.

This may bend the CD / DVD and may even break them. Also there is a high probability of damaging the DVD lens as its wide open and exposed to the outside world when the tray opens up. Obviously there is no electronic way of opening up the tray and you have to rely on a plastic push button mechanism to open the tray ( quite a delicate way to do it).

Overall, I find this player, a value for money device which offers a good viewing experience with my TV which has stereo sound outputs and offers a display quality level which is not below something that can be perceived by human eye.
