This is one DVD player which I would not reccomend even to my enemies. We bought this set in Feb 2005 for a very reasonable 3990/- mainly lured by the high profile philips ad that the player plays discs in virtually all formats. The first drawback would be that this player comes with a region code for DVD and you wil have to hack it to play all DVDs!! We then ran into trouble with a few MP3 discs. (Early Mar 2005)The trouble is pretty strange, its not that the player will not read or play the discs . It is that you have to put the discs in a particular order to play. An MP3 if put in the tray after a normal CD/VCD/DVD was played will not be read. But if you switch off the system and then restart it, then you can see the same disc working without any noticeable problems. The customer service people to whom we referred the problem, were as incompetent as they get. They first told it was a software problem, then that it was a hard ware problem but were not ready to give it in writing that the piece was defective.(Our dealer asked us to get a written statement from the service center so that they could replace the set for us.) We were asked to meet a top manager who was to visit the service center last saturday(Apr 23) who would clear all issues. But the manager too proved to be of little help. We literally had to shout at all people involved to get the piece replaced. Of course I didnt opt for Philips as the replacement. The showroom dealer after much persuasion agreed to give us a player of a different make as replacement. God save the poor customers who get into trouble with their philips appliances.Cos that is the time you pick up the phone to call the representatives of HELL
