Phillips DVP 3256 - 1 kilo of junk

I bought the Phillips DP 3256 on insistence of the sales chap at Vijay Sales saying that it would play all types of formats and even scratched discs. It does that, but this particular piece stopped working in 5 weeks. [The warranty is 6 months] I used it about 8-9 times to play avi files from a usb drive. I didn’t even use the optical disc drive.

I called Vijay sales, who promptly contacted Phillips to come and check it out. They sent an engineer after a couple of days. The chap took out a PCB(circuit board) and said it was spoilt.

When asked how could something get spoilt in just a month, he replied "You buy a cheap DVD player, you cant expect it to work well, even if it is a Phillips" I spent Rs. 3000 for it and it is by no means cheap for me!

Its been 2 weeks now and there is no sign of the Phillips chap returning with the fixed/new circuit board. This, despite Vijay Sales constant follow up with them.

One more caveat with this DVD player, its welcome screen doesn’t even indicate that it is a Phillips or branded player. it just shows a grey screen with some abstract art on it. Pretty pathetic.

The built quality is not that great, but then again, we use the remote more than the buttons on the player.

All in all, if Phillips thinks that selling’cheap’ products and expecting the customer to think that having them break down every month is normal, then I think I’ll take my business somewhere else.
