As far as I can remember, I have always been a Japanese Electronics fan. I always preferred their Electronics products owing to the mastery in Electronics fabrication. Aiwa Cassette walkman, SONY and Panasonic TVs have always fascinated me. But not anymore.
It so happened that my 2- years old Mitashi DVD Player (reviewed on MS) saw its days. Its video clarity became horrible and it also started rejecting original DVDs. I thought of replacing it with better branded Player rather than repairing it. I actually didnt want to spend a lot buying an expensive HDMI DVD Player ( bcos just as VCDs and DVDs replaced VHS Video Cassettes in mid 90s, Blu Ray Discs are fast replacing DVDs now a days.....SONY has launched a Blu Ray for 10K INR. Prices will fall still further).
Now the question was which brand should I buy ??? As a Panasonic TV fan I know what Japanese quality is. I could not find any Panasonic or SHARP DVD players online. A simple Google search told me Philips rules the DVD Player market in India. I also learnt that PHILIPS invented the DVD. Being impressed by Philips headphones, I decided to go for a Philips DVD Player. A search on the Philips India website and MouthShut_Official made me shortlist DVP 3336. It has 100% recommendations from MSians.
Features:
I personally feel Philips products offer best value for money. DVP 3336 is not just very good looking but it also performs well. Painted with a grey cum black color, it looks stunning. Its a DVD player that plays all regions DVDs (after breaking region lock) all common formats in existence today like CDA, JPG, MP3, WMA, DivX, XviD, Dat and AVI. Thanks to the USB port ... I play them all from my thumb drive. Its picture clarity is its biggest plus point ..... it nearly equals HD Quality Video. The original Hollywood movie DVDs (and DivX) are crystal clear. Watched XviD 480p BR-rip of Avatar and it was mind blowing. Sound is clear and has no problems. It also has FM Tuner and Speaker.
There is also another interesting feature in this player. We can play MP3 songs at the background and run a slide show of JPG file pictures. It is really enjoyable as I can run my fav songs @ background when I view photos.
Philips Landmarks:
Philips invented the Laserdisc, DVD and CD.
Philips introduced Pixel Plus, an Interpolation Technology that doubles the number of scanning lines of a TV eliminating flicker. It was the first step towards High Definition Video.
Philips LCD TVs use the patented Amblight technology.( Watch https://youtube.com/watch?v=AI6wJ2vC5ss&feature=fvw ).
Philips introduced worlds first 21:9 format cinemascope LCD TV.
During the 2nd World War, the CEO of PHILIPS Corporation Frits Philips, saved the lives of 382 Jews (in Holland ) by giving them shelter and saved them from being massacred by Hitlers forces. For this he was honored with the Righteous Among Nations award by Israeli Government in 1995.
Disadvantages:
I have found just one flaw in this player : sometimes when I play JPG and MP3 files together from USB Drive, the player restarts automatchandru021y. Player plays from the first file in the first folder again. Otherwise the player is PERFECT.
Punchline :
This is the 3rd Philips product in a row in my home and its doing very well. I earlier used to gravitate towards Japanese brands but now Philips has grabbed my attention.
