Before writing some points on this dvd player, let me tell you it all depends on ur budget and requirement on wht really u want to buy. Philips provides you with different options on choosing a dvd player one without(Divx, karoake, 5.1channel) and one with them. The model tht im writing this review has all of them......

Why Divx Support:--

You probably wouldn’t find Dvd makers like Sony laying their hands on Divx support for their dvd players. Simple reason: They own hollywood studios and Divx is user friendly and very easy to copy. So it leads to piracy. But philips doesnt have to worry anything like that.
You can encode Dvd movies with many encoders available or u can even convert ur dvd into a divx format saving hundreds of Mega bytes Example a Dvd movie running into a gigabyte can be put into a Cd using a Divx coder without loss of quality. You can even watch subtitles with a divx format.
Theres lots of networks available where you can dowload DivX quality movies and now you gotta player where u can watch them on ur TV screen.
The Best Part:

The best part is PHilips offers Firmware upgrade for this player...i.e...you can keep ur Dvd player uptodate...with the software tht you dowload from philips website......
All you have to do is:
1. Download the zip file in the product updates section on Dvp642k/69 section from https://philips.com.
Unzip the files and using Nero cd burner burn them into a CD-R/Cd-Rw.
Open the tray and place the disc...the files will automatically load into the player. If successful the player will switch off itself...
Unplug mains for 15 seconds plug them back in and after couple of seconds the tray will open u can then remove the disc.
The player will function normally.
* the above steps tell you how u shud do the firmware upgrade......for detailed info like how to write the files , the mode tht you have to write, the speeed in which u have to write, how to find the serial number of ur player(important to tell your customer support if u call them)....can be found in the PDF file available at https://phiips.com
Functionality of the Player:

The player did play some pirated dvd’s tht I had which were unplayable with a dvd player(cyberhome) tht I got from US. Initally if u do not have a 5.1 channel surround sound speakers u have the sound setting options from your remote, which you have to change them to recieve sound from your rear TV speakers
I was not able to hear sound from a dvd movie tht I watched, I had to change the sound setting to watch it(i.e...it comes out of the box for 5.1 channel speakers u can change the settings to play the sound through ur TV speakers)
Notes:

The remote is configured to multifunction (i.e)each button has more than one function tht you can perform.
Example: Therez no separate button for open/close. Pressing the Stop button for 3 seconds will open the tray and pressing again will close it.
Cons:

1. Sometimes it skips lots of minutes.
No option to see Time remaining (maybe they wud rectify in firmware upgrade)
Fast forward limited to 8x in dvd movies
Fast forward limited to 4x in vcd
Player is bit horizontally lengthy(had to accomodate all inputs and stuffs at the back).
No separate function buttons in the remote.
Im sorry I cant find anything more.
