I just recently purchased a phlips dvd player 642k. The best part about this player is, as mentiioned by other people also is that regardless of what format you have your movies in i.e. VCD, SVCD, DVD or DiVx for that matter, it just plays it!!! and that also at 100% quality...haven’t seen anything like this player before...definitely a must buy.
Negative aspects:
Although its one of the best players now available in the indian market, it has its drawbacks as well.
It’s max. forward/rewind speed is at 8x whereas other players in the market these days support upto 24x to even 32x.
You cannot resume a DiVX file if you stop it by mistake or intentionally, as a result you’ll have to manually forward it...I Just read somewhere that while encoding the file, if ’’home Theater’’ mode is not selected, even the review function is disabled which thus makes it a pain in the !@# to keep forwarding the movie just in case you miss out or stop the player for any reason whatsover.
3.The player only excepts REGION 3 or ALL dvds. Ive heard a lot about unlocking it once and for all with the help of some code which you feed in at the start-up menu, but all that, i’ve just HEARD!! no-one ever mentions how to do it or where to get the unlock code from!!!
Over all its a rocker!!!!!!!!!!!!! Buy! bUY! BUY!!
