Just three days back I bought the Philips DVP-642 dvd player after carefully going through the reviews given on the mouthshut.com, by our couleges, and it is amazing one first of all let me tell the whole story
i was not getting the piece there in mulund, as well as in there thane in one shop I got the player but he said that this one is available for 5990 Rs with no dvd offer which I asked him for, he called philips dealer he also said that there was no such offer on that player later so only option left for me was onida 7100 model, on I left that shop gone to another finally I got that player in another for 4500 Rs I made him to come down to 4300 Rs while all other dealers were telling me that philip[s have stopped DVP-642k production due to its length which was much more than other players available there in the market. Its having Progressive Scan Output (PSO) for better picture scanning on screen, but your tv should support that feature.
Pros:-
1) player supports cd, cd-r, cd-rw, dvd, dvd-r.dvd-rw, jpeg, kodak
image files, DivX, mp3, vcd, svcd.so making it the only player in the market which is supporting all file formats at this price.
2)It is delivering good quality picture which I was getting unacceptable on my pc, with reallly home theater like sound effect
with dolby, ac-3, dts support (which I played on my LG supreme golden eye multi system tv)
3) It is supporting 5.1 channel system
4) very sleek good looking model
5) having fiber optical connectivity for 5.1 channel system
6) Its firmware is upgradable.
7) Component Video Output.
so it is the only piece in tha market having DivX support other than MEPL make DVD 868 model and is koool one till the date not making any type of noise.
Cons:-
1) it is basically supports only region 3 dvds
2) Remotes upper plastic casing quality is cheap after all it is china made
3) buttons were not placed on proper place om remote (not conventional one)
4) reverse forward facility can be used upto 4x sped only which is slow in while comparng with other players 32x speed.
on box it given that it supports region 3 dvds only.
