I was looking for divx player in month of aug and I found 2-3 players from mitashi, sony and philips.Out of these 3 mitashi looked cheap and sony was damn expensive, hence I got this philips dvp-5500s dvd player for 4.5 k, since then life has been really good I must say!
The player is sleek with good finish and build quality is nice...its tray loader player and has standard play, stop, prev, next buttons on the right side.On far left it has standby button and next to the tray is open/close button.
Now abt compatability and it is upto the mark...
It can play audio cd, videocd, dvds, mp3 cds, rw-cds and rw-dvds.
Now the best part is tht it can play all kinda of divx encoded stuff and xvid is fully compatible too.
It plays picture cds as well, though much is said abt packed bitstream errors and resultant jerky display I didnt notice any and same can be corrected using some softwares.
Now the connectivity. It supports normal composite red/white/yellow connection and dvd component connection as well.Though it doesnt have s-video out but it hardly matters...
I didnt like remote much cause its not easy to operate and needs some time to get used to.
Sometimes the player takes time to read cds/dvds and I have noticed tht picture cds with high resolution snaps takes really long to display the images.Display is quite crisp and clear and so is audio.
Though its not an out and out audio player its good enough for normal home user..it has built in dolby, dts decoders hence hooking up a home theatre system is worth:) its one the best divx/xvid player for 4.5k and I would surely recommend it :)
