Simple, sensible, economical yet exclusive

I have an affinity 4 exclusivity, when everybody bought Nokia or Sony Ericsson I always had Mototrola(though I am using Samsung these days).

ppl drive santros & wagonRs, I drive a FIAT Uno.Ppl watch a sony LG or Samsung LCD, I own a SHARPppl buy acers, lenovo & viao, i’m planning Toshiba

and when it came for MP3 player ppl mostly buy apple I-pod or Sony, I bought a philips

Saw this in planetM, at EDM mall, the price(Rs 4000) i was immediatly taken. A 4Gb with a colour screen & well a somewhat square design it is still very compact(i can hide it in my fist) & I personally never liked the pen drive looks of others. The brand name of Philips has its own snob value, after all for decades we’ve had Philips radios in homes, I even happen to own a philips boom box.

Black glossy finish which is highly scratch prone & I saw some white and pink specs on the internet but as usual in india just like the cars with no fancy colour schemes available, I got mine laminated immediatly.it is recommended cuz the front pannel and buttons feel like they’ll come off soon & thanks2my high prespiration rate I didnt want it2die of drowning by my prespiring palms.

Along with it came a box with a small software CD, and very simple looking earphones that come without any rubber gripping for the ears, I tested it using my samsung’s earphones and the output was amazing.

At the bottom are a standard 3.5mm socket, a socket for putting in the tag and a standard USB socket which means I can charge it using my motorola’s charger and a USB cable which is just 3 inches long and infact remains rigid like a stick, but thats actually smart cuz this player is very light,  it tends 2fall off the table if connected by using a long cable.

putting a tag and hanging from my neck was the only option cuz the cord of my samsung earphones was very small and I find it very convinient.

the facia has a 128x128 resolution colour screen which reminds me of the entry level colour phones but the display is above average but not good, but then again u wont watch videos on a small screen like this, yes it plays videos and the software is provided to convert most formats(including FLV) to the size of the screen. But what the screen sure does is that it displays the name of the song and other options in big fonts so it is very easy to read even in a moving DTC bus or my office cab going WRC style through broken roads.

The screen comes with three colour schemes, red(which is actually purple) yellow and dark(gray), red is the one that I find most easy on my eyes and I dont use grey because I want ppl to notice the colour screen

there are only four very far placed microscopic icons below the screen on a one-piece pabnel with up and down at top and bottom, and play/pause button on the right side and the "GO BACK" button on the left. there is a small depression which actually feels like a button but is nothing. I ended up pressing it thinking its a button. so while the button interface disappoints the software interface makes up for it.

The volume control is on the right side similar to what we see in most cellphones these days and it does not serve for quick scrolling which althopugh is not required cuz scrolling using the up & down buttons is easy and fast no matter how many songs u put in.

boloe the volume adjust is a n options button which allows to open equalizer, which has preloaded presets and manual adjust as well. u can also get the options of adding the song to playlist and deleting the song as well.

it displays an option when connected to the pc of charge and play or charge and transfer, if u dont select anything it automatically opens up like a pen drive so u can actually charge it and then switch it off manually. When connecting to a phone charger it automatically goes to the charge only mode.

it also comes with FM radio and the recption, without a doubt is poor, no matter which part of delhi I am  be it walking or moving it is never catches up and to top that I still cannot figure out how to save the manually tuned frequency and because of the poor reception it always misses a few stations with auto tuning and no option of mono or stereo is avaialable although when once in a blue moon I do get good reception the sound quality is good. But thanks to the radio stations these days religiously repeating a total of 20 songs around a thousand tiomes a day I dont feel like listening to the radio.

there is a microphone also at the bottom for voice recording, and it also has FM recording available, and the files are savedin mp3 format which is useful.
