Good things come in small packages

For a gadget its size and cost, the RS045 belts out value like no other. This slightly-larger-than-a matchbox sized FM radio reciever from Philips is a great companion at home, at work or anywhere in between. With the action hotting up in the FM space, the RS045 could make a good substitute for the ipods and dangler mp3 pen drives. Comes with price tag that doest hurt and the freedom to be careless enough to lose it somewhere and still care a rats whisker. The squarish shaped FM reciever is a beauty with a brushed steel finish on the top and the rest of the body finished in silver grey plastic. It has two cute chrome finished buttons for the ’scan’ and ’reset’ functions and a palstic knob that serves both as a switch and a volume control. The reception is good except for a teeny bit of noise when the volume is set high, but Ive noticed this happens only with 2 among the 5 stations I recieve on it. The earphones that come with it can be readily discarded as the sound output is genuinely lousy and could cause more damage to your ears than Tyson did to Holyfield. Basic Sony earphones go well with the RS045, cutting out almost all noise without compromising on the fidelty. The gadget uses 2 AAA cells. Opt for Eveready/Sony rechargable NiMH cells, if you already have a good universal quick charger. If you dont, buy one today. If you’re planning on using ordinary alkaline cells, be prepared to change them as often as your shaving blades not to mention the risk of brief disuse and leaking batteries killing the circuit.

The RS045 is a dream come true for those seeking simple pleasures.

Happy FM surfing !
