Telephony at its best

Communication is such an important aspect of human life isn’t it? Without communication so many technological development would never have taken place.   Man needs communication immensely. And in my opinion the Telephone is one of the biggest communicating invention of the last century. All credit goes to Graham Bell for changing our lives so much.

Well, here, I would like to quote an incident I read in some book. It so happened that in the early 1900s, when Graham Bell invented his wonder machine, he held a demonstration in front of the famous Winston Churchill. After the demonstration was over Churchill was impressed. He exclaimed, ’’Well, this is a great invention indeed but who on earth would use it.’’ Now, isn’t this a shocker and look at the irony. There is virtually not a single house that doesn’t use a telephone. Such has been the influence of telephone over the years.

Today I am here to write about a telephone not many would have come across. This telephone that I am talking about is a good model, a high-end digital telephone from the makers of great digital things as such, Philips. Yes, their telephone, the Philips TD 9470 is a telephone that has taken its place in my house for the past year. At the end of the day, I am an impressed man for this telephone has so many cool features that’ll leave anybody stumped. And I would like to review this product, a telephone the Philips TD 9470 and convince you as to why this is the best around.

The Philips TD 9470 is a feature telephone with full-digital Answering Machine. The design of the phone is something more than wonderful. Plastic carving is what I would say. Made of a strong Plastic, the keys are well placed and they are case-sensitive for sure. Even a gentle touch would do the job. Now let us explore its features.

The TD 9470 is a “normal” but advanced telephone set with a built-in full digital answering machine. All incoming and outgoing vocal messages are digitized ad stored into the digital memory of the telephone answering machine, instead of the traditional cassette tape. Therefore the total reliability of the telephone answering machine is much enhanced. The Answering machine can record a total of 14 minutes of time or say, 64 messages. A New message LED indicator indicates as to whether a new message has landed up or not. Also, there is a message counter to count the messages stored.

A Toll-save feature is included to save calling charges when you monitor the new messages by calling your own number from a distance. With recording outgoing and thanks messages being as easy as it is, the machine is very much user-friendly. The playback, fastforward and backward erase are made all the more easier. The user programmable settings also help a great deal.

Now, get ready for this. This telephone has a Remote Control with which it is possible from all over the world to control your machine. This might be unbelievable and mind-boggling but it is true.

The machine can be controlled from another location by means of a touch-tone phone or an optional “beeper” on a pulse dialing phone. All you have to do is program the remote and customise your machine for the particular beep sound.

Coming to the normal telephone operations, they are both innovative and easy. Firstly you have the option of setting your phone to pulse or tone dialing. In a room with several phones such as an office, you may want to adjust the ringer pitch, so as to clearly distinguish the sound of your phone from that of other phones. You have the usual ringer volume control.

The on-hook-dialing feature enables you to dial a number without lifting the hand set. There is also a group listen-in feature, which allows people nearby to listen to a conversation. A mute feature is also incorporated. The hold (transfer) function is useful if you want to transfer a call to a phone which is connected parallel to the same telephone line. The usual last number redial feature is of course incorporated.

The telephone has a great memory. The telephone memory allows you to store 13 numbers, which can subsequently be dialed automatically. You have a mixed mode dialing using which you can switch from pulse to tone dialing. There are Special Network Services and a 2-digit LED display

With so many features and a user friendly nature, the telephone simply rocks. More so, it has been totally hassle free for the past year and on a personal count I can say that this telephone is the most user friendly machine I’ve ever seen. So if you are planning to buy a new instrument, then I would strongly recommend Philips TD 9470” for this instruments work wonders.
