Philips CFL Bulbs – Less Energy, More Light

Philips CFL Bulbs – Less Energy, More Light

Today in India more than 75 per cent of electricity is wasted because of the kinds of lamps, bulbs and other electrical implements we use that consume more electricity. Using electricity wisely can help us to get more value for our money & also helps to conserve natural resources and reduces the impact energy use has on the environment. The more power we use, the more of our natural resources we squander.

From several decades incandescent light bulbs have dominated the lighting market. It is surprising to know that inefficient bulb still provides around 85 percent of the world’s lighting.

Replacing incandescent with good quality CFL Bulbs (compact fluorescent light) is one of the best ways to save energy & money. A CFL is a sophisticated electronic appliance that turns electricity into light rather than heat. Currently, there are some companies that create and persuade people to use alternative types of light bulbs that are much more efficient.

From last three years I am using Philips Tornado T2 Compact fluorescent light bulbs in my office & home. I always prefer to buy quality brands like Philips, they will last the stated time and save my money without compromising on light quality. Philips is one of the global leaders in lighting. They were the first to introduce the energy saving bulb in 1981 & sell more CFL bulbs than any other brand.

Advantages of using Philips Tornado T2 CFL Bulbs.

The biggest advantage of CFL bulbs is it reduces consumption of electric energy & reduces costs. They consume two-third less energy than standard incandescent bulbs to provide the same amount of light.

Philips CFL light bulb lasts up to 8 times longer than incandescent lighting. Typical longevity is between 6, 000 and 10, 000 hours,

Compact fluorescent light bulbs generate 70 percent less heat than incandescent bulbs, they are safer to operate and can also reduce energy costs.

The Philips Tornado T2 comes in all choice of wattages, Starts from 5watts/8watts/12watts and is available in both pin type and screw type base options.

Tornado CFL bulbs are extra bright & consumers can choose from warm white and cool daylight color options.

CFL bulb can be directly plug into the same sockets that incandescent bulbs plug into, making them simple & easy to install.

The T2 range comes in a more compact size, up to 40% smaller than previous models.

CFL bulbs are a greener option for the environment.

Disadvantages

The initial cost of a Philips CFL light bulb is around ten times that of standard incandescent bulbs. Philips Tornado CFL 15w/86/82 B22/E27 is priced around Rs 250. The prices are higher, but compensated with the longer life and the energy saved.

There is a hidden danger sealed inside the CFL bulbs. The main disadvantage of using compact fluorescent bulbs contains mercury, a toxic heavy metal that can cause serious health problems if inhaled or ingested over a period of time or in large enough doses. The problem comes only when the bulb breaks.

Research study from Stony Brook University has proven that CFLs do emit ultraviolet (UV) light rays that can harm human skin cells.  If the phosphor coating is cracked, UV rays escape from the bulb, causing damage to exposed skin cells from prolonged exposure at short ranges.

CFL bulbs are more fragile, especially when hot they can break quite easily. Therefore it is not a good idea to use them on table lamps or bed lamps. It is best to avoid using them at close distances & they are safest when placed behind an additional glass cover.

Useful Tip For Efficient Use

Frequently switching CFL Bulbs shortens their life. To take full advantage of the energy savings and long life of CFL Bulbs, we have to use them in light fixtures that are on for at least fifteen minutes. Even when turned on and off frequently, CFLs use less energy than incandescent bulbs.

Overall Philips Tornado T2 CLF bulbs are energy efficient & less expensive in long run. Replacing incandescent with good quality CFLs is one of the best money saving investments one can make.

By saving energy and electricity consumption by using CFL bulbs, we can help to light up those rural places in our country that have no electricity.
