A mad,mad comedy

I happened to see Phir Hera Pheri a few days back. The original movie was a definite classic which even now tickles your funny bones. The sequel was highly expected and unfortunately it disappoints big time.    After Hera Pheri, our 3 bungling heroes;Raju, Shyam and Baburao are nice and rich with a plush bungalow and all.One day Raju gets a phone call from a chit fund which offers to double their money in 21 days.Raju falls for the trick and in the end all three end up on the footpath. How the three get out of the mess forms the crux of the story. The story is ludicrous to say the least and has zero logic.Though Hera Pheri was slapstick as well, the story did have an ounce of logic which actually held the movie together.Phir Hera Pheri completely lacks that.   The screenplay is dumb;way too dumb.It is way too chaotic and the director depends too much on the comic sequences to hold the movie together.Songs come from nowhere, and they end abruptly as well. The sub-plots are so confusing that in the climax you don’t have a clue what’s going on.I repeat again, this movie has zero logic.I really don’t see the point for example in having a gorilla doing trapeze stunts. The movie will make you laugh, definetly, you might even have stomach cramps laughing, but at the end of it all you wil feel stupid.Unlike Hera Pheri which will always remain an evergreen comedy, this movie will actually irritate you if you see it again.   Acting is definetly the high point of the film.Akshay, Suniel and Paresh are the only 3 factors which make this movie watchable.Akshay has beautifully fitted into the comic genre and really he has blossomed into a fine actor.Paresh Rawal doesn’t need any praises. As Baburao Ganpatrao Apte he single-handedly appears larger than the film. One feels that Suniel has been given a raw deal but still he manages to squeeze in between the dynamic duo.The ladies have precious little to do so no marks for them. The other side actors like Rajpal Yadav, Johnny Lever, Sunil Pal are ok, their talent not given full justice by the lousy script.   Music and cinematography is nothing to talk about really.Just your average bollywood movie music and cinematography.   In short, Phir Hera Pheri is not worth wasting your money on.Hang on for a while and catch it on TV.If you really want to see it, try to catch a matinee show for Rs.50. You will thank yourself for saving yourself a lot of money.
