I have been using the PhonePe app for the last 4 5 years mainly for UPI payments, mobile recharges, and bill payments. Overall, the app is convenient for daily use, but it also has some noticeable drawbacks that cannot be ignored.
Advantages(Pros)
User-Friendly Interface
PhonePe has a simple and clean interface. Even first-time users can easily understand how to make payments or recharges.
Fast UPI Transactions(Most of the Time)
UPI payments usually go through quickly. Scanning QR codes and sending money to contacts is smooth during normal hours.
Multiple Services in One App
The app offers many services like mobile/DTH recharge, electricity and gas bill payments, FASTag recharge, insurance, and investments, all in one place.
Good Security Features
PhonePe provides app lock, UPI PIN, and biometric authentication, which makes transactions secure.
Occasional Cashback and Offers
Cashback offers are limited now, but sometimes useful deals are available.
Disadvantages(Cons)
Server Down Issues
During peak hours, the app often becomes slow or shows server down errors. Transactions may fail or get stuck as pending.
Slow Customer Support
Customer care response is not very fast. In case of failed or pending transactions, it usually takes 25 days to get a proper resolution.
Too Many Ads and Notifications
The app shows unnecessary promotional notifications and ads, which can be annoying.
Very Low Cashback Compared to Earlier
Earlier, PhonePe used to offer good cashback. Now most rewards are very small or just Better Luck Next Time.
Refund Delays
Sometimes money gets deducted but does not reach the receiver. Although refunds usually come back, they take time and cause stress.
Overall Experience
PhonePe is a reliable app for small, everyday transactions, but server problems and weak customer support reduce trust for urgent or high-value payments.
Final Verdict
PhonePe is good for regular UPI use, but keeping an alternative UPI app as a backup is strongly recommended.
Recommended with limitations.
