Everytime I think of the Colaba Causeway, the first thing that comes to mind is not the trendy, colourful clothes, accessories or shoes, but the Piccadilly restaurant! I have to commute for over an hour by taking the local train or by road. All I can see in front of my eyes is the awesome and mouth-watering Shawarma and the ice-cold, cold coffee. But of course the first thing I do is take a good look at all the stalls and mentally mark them, to later go and shop there.
Well, the restaurant is close to the famous Leopold cafe, but mind you, do keep your eyes peeled to spot this one as it is a pretty small place and is overshadowed by a number of stalls and shops. On weekends, it can be a little difficult to find a place as the have only a few tables. The best part is there is seating available, on a raised mezzanine sort of a place and below.
My favorite sitting area? The small table with three chair, right next to the huge window that offers a beautiful view of the Causeway. The room is airy and a typical, old Irani cafe. You do not need to worry about the service as it is pretty quick and prompt. Yes, the waiters do not carry a notepad and remember the things that you order.
First things first, the moment the waiter gets to you, order your Veg/Non-Veg Shawarma and some chilled(preferably sweet) drink to go with it. The roll comes with a side dish of pickled beetroot. Inside too you will find a yummy filling of pickled beetroot and french fries with of course your choice of Veg or Non-Veg filling.
If you still have room to eat some more, do try their various pulaos or some other Irani speciality. The place is pretty easy on the pocket and provides huge potions, so yes, you wont go hungry!:)
P.S-(Specially for women) At the time of exiting the restaurant, do visit the jewellery stall right at the door of Piccadilly as he has some of the most amazing collection of imitation jewellery ever!
Happy Eating :)
