Broadly speaking, there are three kinds of films - those we watch and forget, those we watch and remember, and those we watch and wonder ‘how on earth can a director make such a meaningless film? Piku falls in this last category. Watching Piku is like going through a tedious journey along an ugly road that takes you nowhere. What exactly was the director trying to make? A funny film that would make the audience laugh at every turn? Well, it is a laughable film alright.
If a grown up man’s idea of comedy revolves around Bowel movement and Constipation then one can only pity him. If the filmmaker’s intention was to poke fun at an utterly repulsive, constipated old man then he has only succeeded in the ‘repulsive’ part. Yes, Amitabh Bachchan’s superb performance has succeeded in creating a thoroughly repulsive, irritable old fool of a man look very real on screen. It is his performance and that of Irrfaan Khan that makes the film watchable after all.
