The Homeboy Experience.......

I have been a Pizza Corner afficionado for the last nine months. I guess I must have eaten atleast 60 pizzas in the period, around 40 of them being from Pizza Corner. I used to live in a place called Mogappair West, which is somewhere in the outskirts of Chennai, miles away from any decent food joint. And after a late day at the office, the last thing on my mind is to catch a bus (with a pincode full of people for company) and catch a bite.

Honestly though I used to ring up a competitor, in Anna Nagar, which was around 5 km. from my place. They delivered ok, till one day they started cribbing about my house being too far away, and that too after I used to be a dedicated customer. That was that. I’ve been a 100% Pizza Corner man after that.

Umm.. now lets see, I swear by their customer service, I’ve seen guys drive the 8 kilometres or so to my house, get lost, trudge up my driveway, and still hand the pizzas over with a BIG smile. Never a crib. The guys on the phones are pretty nice too, cordial and straight to the point.

Promptness, well I wouldnt really know, I have never eaten at a joint, its been 100% home-delivered so far. And as far as that goes, they’ve been pretty quick. And I think they try their best to please. They do have a 39 minute commitment for delivery within certain area limits. But again I have always it between 40 minutes to an hour, and its always been pretty good.

Now the big one, Pizza Quality. Honestly speaking not spectacular. The range is ok, for the veggies I guess its not that great, for the non-veggies too nothing to write home about. They do have a few fiery Indian style toppings, but its just doesnt taste like a Pizza. For the majority of the spread, they all taste a little too similar, you really have to creative with your toppings to coax somelife out of them. I always go for the extra Mushroom, Black Olive and Cheese to get some life and richness.

As for the non-pizza varieties, it is pretty good by me, the Garlic Bread is great, though the cheese does tend to solidify a little too quickly, and stick to the top of the box. But I suppose it must be great in situ. The chicken fingers, wedges and potato ABC (pretty good for the kids this one) are all filling and crisp. The lasagnas are just about ok. The non-veg is a little too cheesy, and will blow your cholestorol levels through the roof. The Veg-one is too bland. If you’ve never had Lasagna before go for a specialist Italian joint to get a good taste of this exotic dish.

They have two salads, both below par. The veg one is just a jumble of corn, peas and carrots, and is ultra bland. The non-veg one is chicken hawaian salad, aka lots of pineapple, mayo and diced chicken; ok, but will kill the flavour of any good pizza. Only as a last resort....

The deserts are too few to name, the Fudge is good, but too expensive, the rest is just packaged icecream. No No No.

The crusts come in three types, thin, regular and thick, nothing major, those are just that, thin, regular and thick.

I recommend the Diet Coke, as I’ve always found it complimentary to all the foods, though this is a debatable, and mostly up to individual choice.

All in all they food is ok, decent value for money, but theres is no real character here. You will not remember any particular Pizza, but will enjoy a good meal. The special offers they have on periodically are ok, but most of the time, the pizzas on offer are pathetic tomato, onion combos.

So there, decent food, good service and not a lot to choose from. Better than many mom and pop pizza joints, but not really Italiano if you know what I mean. But if you’ve got some cash, theres a movie on TV, and your too lazy to get up from the couch, why not ????
