This movie was one which struck very deep a chord in me. Being a child from a marriage of a Muslim man and a Hindu woman who can deal with their own religions and love each other, I grew up not believing in rituals and practices of any religion, but in being spiritual. In the movie, Amir plays the alien which comes onto Earth and to survive, needs to understand the law of the land, in other words: go through the process of socialization. He then adapts slowly and learns the language, religions and rituals which are a huge part of "practice of religion" in our country. The man made structures of this ritual practice have been created in unequal power structures, be it in terms of having the patronage of kings or casteism or an unequal male female equation, most of which continue till today. Apart from this, religion these days, had become an industry, more of a scam, where the beliefs of people are being expressed in the form of more and more rituals, intolerance and extremism. The movie beautifully brings out the truth that religious tolerance is the way ahead and that we all are human beings after all, where we need to respect each other more than respecting some religious ritual which may hurt another human. The movie also deals with the psychology of persuasion, with the truth of genuine love and that love knows no borders. Finally, the movie leaves on with a heavy heart where the art of letting go of someone you love is important when you know that, that is what your loved one had chosen. Overall, it was an amazing watch of a crazy curious alien who can teach us many truths which we may fail to acknowledge!
