Calangute's veg restaurant

Plaintain Leaf is a vegetarian restaurant situated in the Goan beach village of Calangute. It is approximately 500 metres from the beach and is situated in the Calangute market in the building called Almita III(3) . The restaurant is a standard vegetarian restaurant amidst bars and food joints found all over Calangute catering to the foreigner’s palate.

The restaurant is situated on the first floor of the building. It is divided into two sections but one section is opened up only when required. The seating consists of tables and benches covered with black rexine. Mostly the restaurant has tables for four. The overall ambience of the restaurant is good. The service is courteous though not very prompt. The lack of promptness might be attributed to the laid back goan lifestyle.

The menu has South Indian as well as North Indian items. North Indian items are available only during lunchtime and after 7 pm.During my last visit to this place they had also added pav bhaji to the menu. You can also get Bacardi Brezeer and Kingfisher Beer at this place.

The restaurant also serves Thali during lunchtime. When I visited this place ordinary Thali cost Rs 50 while special Thali cost Rs 60.Quality and quantity of food was satisfactory.Besides you will also find ice creams , juices and milkshakes on the menu. I tried the Falooda Ice cream and it was really worth the 50 rs they charged for it.

The pricing of this restaurant is steep given the fact that it is situated at a tourist spot and the business is seasonal. However there can be no complaints regarding the quality of food. Only thing is that if you are staying at Calangute for a longer period like I did , you will be bored of the same taste and visiting the same place.

The billing counter has STD/ISD phone facilities. One more suggestion I would like to give you is that at the billing counter you get an excellent local guide pamphlet of Baga , Calangute , Anjuna , Candolim and sinquerim beaches. It will cost you Rs 20. Buy the pamphlet if you want to know more about the North Goa beaches. It also has useful contact numbers.

Plaintain Leaf is a good place to get vegetarian food in Calangute. Recommended.
