I took a look at PlanGreen.com because many people on MouthShut wanted to know just what it was like.
Although I liked the look of the site and I feel that there is a need for a garden-planning site on the Internet, I have one major complaint. Here in America, our money is green, so we are very likely to think in terms of a financial planning site when we hear the name PlanGreen.com - as in planning what to do with your ’’folding green, ’’ an American slang term for money.
In this sense, the name PlanGreen.com is similar to Chevy’s experience with the Nova in Mexico. In America, the term ’’nova’’ refers to a type of star that is essentially dying or something, while in Mexico, to call a car Nova is to say that it doesn’t run - as in, ’’El no va, ’’ or it doesn’t run.
Put another way, language is important. If you are trying to appeal to an international audience, you’d better have someone on staff that speaks a number of languages, so you don’t name a gardening site PlanGreen.com in America or a car Nova in Mexico.
