I had the misfortune of dining at Plates and Pints at 106, Dhunabad, Bhulabhai Desai Marg, Kemps Corner.
My friends had booked a table for 6 pax at this place for 4th Feb 2022 and we reached there at approx. 9.00 PM as was the scheduled time of our booking.
In terms of appearance, I will admit that the place looked good and it promised to be a fun evening with my friends.
As soon as we sat down, the waiter barely gave us 2 minutes after passing around the Menu cards and stood next to the table to take down the order. Even though I asked him to give us 5 – 10 minutes, he just stood nearby.
It was kind of irritating that we did not get to settle down and already the waiter was on our head, but this was just the beginning of the bad experience.
We ordered 2 pints of beer and some mock-tails along with few starters
Now for a place that writes PINTS in their name, the pints were barely cold - forget chilled. Requested them to get chilled ones but the waiter said the ones being served were the most chilled - beat that!
The starters were decent but the 2 pizzazz we ordered were drenched in oil. The chips served were warm at best. Few other snacks were simply over-priced and not worth that amount.
We had barely gone through half the snacks when the same waiter came to the table and asked for the main course as it was time to take the last orders.
We were aghast - not even having finished the starters and they wanted to take the orders for the main course / final orders.
I explained to them that the Govt. restrictions for Covid has been relaxed 2 days back(in case they were not aware) but the Manager interrupted me rudely saying that they took last orders at 9.45 PM anyways as they shut their kitchen by 10.15 PM sharp. Covid was not their reason for shutting early. This was not informed to us when we walked in at 9.00 PM nor was the closing time or last order time mentioned anywhere. If we had been informed about this when we walked in, we would have chosen to leave and dine elsewhere
Anyways, we placed orders for sizzlers and thought that once the dinner was served, the kitchen shutting would not be something that bothered us as sizzlers are a complete meal. How wrong we were!
I ordered 2 more pints – this was never served – amazing business and hospitality training if I may say!
The sizzlers were served at 10.25 PM and by 10.40 PM, they shut the Air Conditioning of the restaurant - can you believe it! Along with the AC, the switched off all lights save for the lights that lit our table. We were still in the midst of dinning and we were subjected to this atrocious behaviour by the arrogant staff.
I lost my cool and raised my voice - demanding that the AC be switched on again as we were still eating. They did switch it on for 5 minutes and then they were switched off again - this time finally. Dining in MUMBAI and at 10.40 the entire restaurant is in darkness and the air-conditioning is off - can you fathom this?
And the icing on the cake was that while we were eating, the waiter came THRICE to the table - asking us if we could please clear the bill - I dont think I have ever experienced this ever in my life!
After being reprimanded each time that we were still eating and it was rather rude to interrupt guests while they were eating, the waiter came yet again(4th time) and this time all of us decided to pay and walk out – leaving the meals midway.
Getting a ear-full from all of us, the staff there was least bothered and were maybe even hiding a grin(shameful behaviour) and no one tried to placate us or apologize for this impolite behaviour.
The staff knew that accepting orders for sizzlers means that it would take time to prepare this as well as guests would take time to finish this. They could have either refused to take orders for sizzlers or even mention the timeline in their menu that orders for Sizzlers would not be accepted post 9.15 or 9.30 PM.
However, our evening was ruined and I don’t think any of us(we were 6 pax) will ever be going there or suggesting this place to anyone who wants to have a chilled out evening.
Sincere advice to ALL – look elsewhere – DO NOT GO HERE - unless you want a ruined evening!
