Pokemon Go isnt a good game by conventional standards, but it is a new and important one that will get you out of the house and out into the world looking for pokemon and items. Its become such a cultural sensation that chances are high youll have fun walking around with a friend or meeting new people in your neighborhood and chasing after rare pokemon together to fill out your pokedex.
It is not any better than it needed to be, as only the most basic features are offered, and even these lack depth and intrigue. One might hope that technical glitches, connectivity issues and battery problems are improved going forward, but still, the games core systems are just too limited and ill-conceived to provide lasting enjoyment. I fear such a shallow offering is doomed to fade away into oblivion much sooner than the developers expect, ending up as merely an elaborate piece of marketing for the main title sun/moon games. I doubt Niantic realizes that they will never repeat this success of these first few days and that income will drop sharply in the weeks hence. Its just a shame because, with a bit more love, this could have the game changing pokemon mmo fans have been dreaming of for decades.
