Pokemon has always been a popular franchise, be it on TV or the Gameboy Advance Console. We always adore the little trainers setting out on a journey in the world of endless pokemon with a lot of adventure. This time Nintendo brings us Pokemon GO, an Augmented Reality game that lets us be a pokemon trainer ourselves and follow our own adventure- Catching and powering up pokemon to fill up the pokedex, battling and capturing gyms, hatching eggs and lots more.
The game uses local maps to create roads and gps to pinpoint the players location. Nearby pokemon are shown in the bottom right and can be caught by finding where they are. But this isnt the normal way as other games. You need to actually walk to the various locations you see on the map. This game forces walking a lot, so more playing could help you lose some weight. The most common pokemon in my region are rattata, pidgey and doduo. Pokemon differ region to region, and weather as well. Rain makes water pokemon more frequent. You can locate and pick up free stuff from pokestops every few minutes. Collect and transfer similar pokemon to get candies for that pokemon, which can be spent on evoulution or powering up.
When a pokemon appears, you can see it in real world if you have AR mode turned on. Accuracy of capture effects XP bonus.
But this game is a heavy resourced game, so it eats away battery charge very fast. So make sure you have fully charged your device before setting out to explore. It also has a few featues yet to be launched, like PlayerVSPlayer and Trade. At many times of the day, servers are full, which doesnt allow you to play as it is fully online. Also, be careful of surroundings while you are out on the go so as to prevent accidents.
Yet Pokemon GO is a wonderful and happens to popularize this new AR genre by associating it with our beloved franchise. Its a game that has surely been a dream come true to millions of pokefans around the world. For all us, we gotta catch’em all.
