Story: Mahesh Babu’s film’s are always interesting and this is far better than the previous Athadu. His performance in Pokiri along with Ileana’s naivette charm makes this worth seeing. In disguise of a FBI-agent, the protagonist works for Prakash Raj, a mafia leader.
This gangster movie has its focus on the relationship between the dons, and dwells beautifully on the love that goes between aerobics instructor Ileana and Mahesh Babu. Mahesh gives a memorable performance and makes the character very believable.
However the second half of the film is replete excessive gore and action. But that is what the mass wants from the hero! Ileana is constantly harrassed by Ashish Vidyarthi, a cop and through the journey you realise that Mahesh Babu who works for the bhai actually is intelliegence agent and finally eliminates, you know what! Puri Jagannadh comes up trump (despite rehashing the stuff from a hollywood flick, Donnie Brasco) after a long time and picking Mahesh Babu for this role and fortunatley he turned out to be a right man for this role. Pokiri has enough to offer for people who like the gangster-genre, but even if you are normally not a big fan of Mahesh Babu there is still a chance you might like him and the film. His dialogues are a hit with the crowds Music is enthralling and the technical aspects are worth mentioning.
However the double entendre dialogues need to have been toned down. Puri seemed to have embellished the film with proper amount of romance, sex and action and also his dig at some film personalities which seemed unwarranted to make the film a success. Ileana is ravishing and has enough talent that can be exploited for the screen. Screenplay is average, photography and production values are good. Dialogues are minimised and the effect thereon is more. Pokiri tells a much more personal story than most gangster films but packs as much of a punch because everything about it seems more realistic.
But the personal relationships and betrayals are intense and that is why this recent film of Mahesh Babu is as rewarding as anything that Puri Jagannadh ever have brought to the screen.! Performances: Mahesh Babu: action episode scenes were mind blowing and 100% satisfies his fan followers. Praksh Raj action is not to be commented, no other actor could compete with him. Thanks to Poori, after a long gap , we could see Praksh Raj in Telugu film. Ileana-looks beautiful, and her pair with Mahesh Babu -is made for each other. She is so cute in song sequences. She justifies her Job as aerobic teacher. Comedy- Poori made his own type of Comedy bits with Brahmanandam, Ali and Venu. Only Mass audience will enjoy this comedy. . Music by Mairatnam is quite good and catcy-this is the ninth film for Mahesh & Manisarma combination.
Shiyaji shinde and Ashish Vidyardhi have supported the film with their roles as Police officer. Editing by Marthand K Venkatesh is good. Some fights and chases are edited in a neat way. Art by Chinna is good Camera by Sam K Naidu is Awesome. Fights and songs looked extremely authentic. The film definitely sweeps the B, C centres and Mass audiences will be attracted by Mahesh Babu’s get up and Style. Poori could succeed in targeting Mass audiences and Mahesh babu’s fans are most satisfied with the film.
