FOOD and SHOPPING

Police Bazaar.Well what more can a local say about this’bazaar’ than neatly summarize it as a place to shop. But, in my personal experience it has been the hub for everything, be it shopping for latest fashionable attire and accessories at Glory’s Plaza(aka GP) or watching some B grade Bollywood movies in the cinema right next door to GP. Jokes aside, there has emerged major changes to the otherwise long unchanged geography of Police Bazaar: The Ring Road has changed the aesthetic of the central junction Khyndailad into one of a teeny mini Times Square of New York.(Yes its funny!). Besides that a gargantuan parking lot and a mall has been developed in the once urine drenched smelly one tier parking area(Blehk!). But that’s progress! What I really love about Police Bazaar is that in its secret corners known only to its dedicated and beloved locals are long standing well known eateries which have not failed in all these years to give you a one of a kind Taste To Remember(Yes I just played on the movie tilte A Walk to Remember- Lame I know): We have Delhi Mistan Bhandar for those with a sweet tooth- Here you get everything termed Indian Sweets but I suggest you try their Jelebis for the sole reason that they are lovely even to a person not into sweets like me(:P); next we have Regal located close to Dreamland Cinema- here you get everything from Chinese to South Indian but I suggest you pile your table high with whatever food they’ve got because everything is really good; next we have the one and only Hong Kong Restaurant- This you’ll find hidden at the bottom of some stairs in a seemingly shady alley- No adventure no reward right?- If you find this Treasure of a Restaurant in your Treasure Hunt then you’re in for a treat! This place has been owned and kept running by generations of a Chinese Shillong settled family. That means authentic or close to authentic Chinese food. I suggest you to try their Pork Chowmein, their Dimsums with or without soup or their stir fried noodles with Chinese Sausages! But actually everything is really good here! If you’re done eating buy a packet of their Prawn Chips which are utterly crunchily delicious! There are alot of other eating places in Police Bazaar but these are the few I have valued with all my heart in all my years as a Shillongite! Enjoy.:)
