Grungy, Unhygenic, Poor Service

Some one wanted the address of this ’’eatery’’ and so MS has asked for a review.

I also hunted around for this, mainly due to the name and the nostalgia engendered from decades of Archie’s and the happy times everyone seemed to have at Pop tates eatery...

Well, I was disappointed and so will you if you go there with anything in mind like the images from Archie

Location:

OK, so first, WHERE on earth is it? Well I hunted for a week and found it at Balmatta, just behind Andy’s supermarket. It is a TINY place and you can easily miss it!

Ambience:

Ah, an American diner!, with gleaming table tops, lots of hip, cool teens sipping soda pop, wolfing sundaes and Jughead types eating mounds of succulent burgers.. Well that’s what you WON’’T see at this Pop tates.. You have an authentic sign about 2x2 square feet with Pop and Moose and Archie featured prominently on it(someone should sue!), leaving no doubt where the idea is plagiarised from.. But the dingy den is about 10x10 feet and contains a few tables backed together.. No avuncular Pop too, just a surly guy or two who seem least inclined to serve you.

Food:

Ah, food!, now that’s what its all about! Fancy a double cheeseburger? A hotdog with all the fixins’? A banana split? Well you just won’t get it here, and they’ll stare at you incredulously if you ask. They do have a passable shawarma roll ( yes, you read right! Archie and Shawarma’s? .....Naaaah!)and an overspiced rottiserie grilled chicken, which is priced 25 bucks more than in any self respecting Bangalore grill. They also have butter chicken and rotis and ’’chinese’’ food. I wonder why they brought poor old pop into it!

Price:

Not worth the stuff.. I have had better stuff at much more reasonable prices. For example, the whole grilled chicken, which is available only at certain auspicious times, is at 115 bucks, while it is usually 90 in Bangalore. And it is quite small. The Shawarma is 25...

Hygiene:

This isn’t Pop tate, this is Leon from Beau Peep (remember the flies around his head?)

Not at all roomy, terrrrrible service...You do see a lot of Docs and would be docs from KMC around, I guess they try to forget the flies here!

Should you go?:

Well, if your expectations are low, then it should be OK, but don’t go by the name!

Archie should sue!
