Honeymoon trip to Portblair and Havelock

I think its a bit too late to write the review on my honeymoon trip to Andamans in Aug 08 but still I though I should share it as "better late than never"

Well to start with it a got cursed from every body for a) visiting Andaman in Aug and b) with a 50 k budget going to Andamans instead of Sout East Asia or Goa.

For the first one it was a bit of a gamble and it paid of very well as we did not get rains at all for the five day and for the second one atleat I am more than satisfied with it but I dont know if other places would have been better.

Now about the place: Port Blair is like any other small tourist destination but the best part was that it was plastic free and very clean. We stayed at the Fortune Resort Bay Island. Its a very good hotel and the charges are a bit high but still the location is great. I feel 2 days is sufficient to go around Port Blair to museums, Celular Jail(very good) with light and sound and another day to North Bay corals and Ross Islands and the local market etc.

The Jails is a great structure to remind you of our freedom struggle and the light and sound show is very emotional and you feel special after the show. The museums are good but dont waste too much time there. North Bay trip is great and dont take the glass boat but try the swim and you can really see and feel the corals which are just out of the world experience. Ross island is also good and the lod structures and worth a look. You should visit Samudrika shop and do the shopping.Other than these I dont think theres many good places worth going but if you have time you can visit the chidiya tapu and the saw mills.

Now coming to the best place on earth : Havelock Islands : This is a paradise on earth and the great thing about this place is that its still not commercialised, people are very friendly, only one main road on the island and you can hire bikes to go around. We stayed at Wild Orchid resort which is very very good. Radhanagar beach is paradise and take a complete day out at this beach and just relax and enjoy its marvellous beauty and the clen water and white sand.

Elphanta Island coral are breathtaking and I just cant explain how beautiful it is. I just wanted to stay there for one more day. It requires a full day trip there. Also you can visit the elphant training camp and the local market place is a good place to visit. The bike ride around the lush green hills falling right into the blue ocean and the road is right at the edge of the hill give you a great feeling. I feel you should stay here for 4-5 days if you love peace and seclusion and nature. Perfect for honeymooners.

The other good place which I could not visit but is a must is the Baratang caves of limestone and the complete trip is breathtaking. Finally my advice: Carry a lot of cash to Havelock as there are no ATM and cards are not accepted. All booking to be done in advance including ferry to Havelck. Great place to just do nothing and perfect for honeymooners. I visited in Aug which is off season and hence there were litrally no crowd and the beaches were almost empty so that was great as most of the bauty of the beaches are spoilt by too much crowd.

Go for Havelck and enjoy the paradise.
