I have been eating at The Only Place since 1999(when they were housed in the Mota Royal Arcade). I distinctly remember the aroma of fresh lasagna on display, just as you walked in. Over the years we have been regulars on Museum road as well. Where else can you find an establishment that prides itself in serving good quality steaks? And add to that a friendly ambience and extremely cordial staff?
Well, when my wife wanted to celebrate this Sunday(2nd March) with a steak dinner, we thought wed try someplace different. Well, not really! We still wanted quality food, ambience and friendly staff.
I had read about Portland Steakhouse a year ago and always wanted to try it, knowing well that it is started by Mr. Haroons daughter. If not anything, I knew they would at least build the place keeping in mind the legacy.
We were in for quite a surprise, a shocking one at that.
The Order:
Food-
BBQ Steak(medium well)
Fish and Chips
Portland Special Burger(I may have got the name wrong)
Drinks-
Virgin Colada
Bangalore Blue
Lime juice-sweet
Dessert-
New York Cheesecake
Total Bill - Approx. Rs 1450/- with tax(No drinks)
To start with the mocktails never came. We ended up canceling. The Captain/Waiter was clueless when I enquired. He actually asked me what I had ordered. I would imagine one would go back check the order.
The food? Well, for a stakehouse? theres not really much on your plate. For starters, I would at least expect a decent amount of sides(mash/fries, salad, dollop of dressing). There just wasnt enough.even for my 4 year old.
Cheesecake is my all-time favorite, so I was kinda looking forward to this one. The bitterness of the lemon zest sort of over-powered what was otherwise a pretty decent dessert.
All-in-all, disappointed! especially, knowing the legacy!
Verdict: Not worth the quality or money! I, for sure, will not be eating there again.
