Preity Zinta is not your average Bollywood doll - firstly she doesn’t have that doe-eyed stare of many a actress in Bollywood; she’s pretty, but not overly beautiful in the conventional sense; she’s attractive, in cute spunky way; sexy, but not overtly so. Her voice is husky, but not in the silky Rani mould, but rather coarse. Also, she’s very Western in her attitude.
Yet, she seems so at home in her movies. Obviously, there are prettier, more glamorous women in Bollywood, but Preity has a certain je ne se quoi about her. Some compare her to Kareena Kapoor (six years her junior.) I find this laughable as Kareena is an overacting, not-so talented girl who got her break with nepotism. Comparing them would be like comparing Reese Witherspoon to Hilary Duff who despite her cuteness cannot act.
Preity was the perfect choice for the role of Naina in Kal Ho Naa Ho . I’m glad Kareena did take the role. It would have been disastrous. Anyway, Preity may not be the top actress in her field, but she certainly has what it takes.
