We bought a Prestige 6.0 induction cooktop about 14 months ago. A few days ago, it stopped working, so looked up for the nearest service center on their website, saw it is in Malviya Nagar, so 7 kms drive in heat of summer. At Prestige/Malviya Nagar they said we live in Defence Colony, so we have to go to Lajpat Nagar, back 9 kms.
At Lajpat Nagar one "engineer" called "Dharmendra" (did not give 2nd name) put the plug in a socket, with that one bulb came on, and he said, circuit is gone, PCB needs to be changed, 1208/- rupees please. What does he think, we are idiots, this is how to test a "circuit"?
Anyway, we write down our name and number and ask him to escalate the issue, and return home. Called their central number, spoke to one parrot type call center person who said, it is out of warranty, PCB replacement will cost 1208/-. So then I put the episode on Facebook.
Two days later, one assistant manager called Ravi Shankar phoned me up, and scolded me, saying "99% machines go bad because of PCB problem" and then he also said "why did you not go through our local sales office". Told him where to get off.
Next his boss Amit Bhargava called and said "I apologize", so I said, give in writing, he said we will fix your induction cooker, I said I am not willing to accept a machine that goes bad in 14 months, repaired or otherwise.
After that Mr. Ramani called from Bangalore and tried to give his point of view, I said tell me one thing - how do you feel if somebody tries to fool you with a plug socket bulb kind of trick. So he also said sorry, I said give your apology in writing, no joy.
Meanwhile, looked around, and discovered that other brands are giving similar machines with 2-year unconditional warranties and none of the marketing hype. That sounds like a better bet. So if you are looking at Prestige, be aware that their warranty as of now is only 1 year.
