Everything in one!

It is a wonderful story capturing all strata of human emotions- pride, humour, first impressions, credulous nature, fickle mindedness, wittiness- the lots.

The story begins with Mrs. Bennet whose sole interest is to find suitable(and rich) grooms for her five daughters- the simpleton Jane, witty Elizabeth, reckless Lydia, studious Mary and easily- led Kitty. She is often criticized for this by her husband, who is much more practical and closest to Elizabeth.

Their life changes with the coming of two rich men in their neighbourhood, Mr. Darc and Mr.Bingley. While the former is preoccupied, silent and proud, the latter is highly amiable. Thus starts Mrs. Bennet?s reckless matchmakings and romance.

Darcy is overcome by what seems to Elizabeth and others as pride. She is prejudiced against all of his actions, having no trust whatsoever. Hence the name ?Pride and Prejudice?.

The novel is not only a romantic classic, but also a commentary on feudal Europe, law not allowing inheritance of property to girls and social customs and practices.

Darcy?s selfless love, Elizabeth?s liveliness and Gardiner?s sagacity leave an everlasting impression. The lively narration ensures that it is not over the top straightforward or monotonous. Philosophical views and practical precedents are aptly reflected in conversations. Also teaches that ?Attractions are always dangerous?, so ?First Impressions should not be last impressions. This is amply brought about in the line of the first chapter-?However, little known the nature of a man on his first entering a neighbourhood.?
