I saw this article in a local news magazine in 2007 that Jeffrey Archer’s new novel would be out any time soon in spring 2008. And bam, there you go. Walking down the book store I saw the book and damn right me won’t miss it for anything in the world. I open the first page and got a sudden flashback of all other Archer novels because of the PAN Macmillan font.
Let me tell you this - The novel is amazing! Archer portrays the characters so well in the novel that you feel as if some one is actually sitting in front of you and narrating the whole story to you. The scene where the murder happens is so complicated and described in various ways through various people yet it seems so clear to the reader.
Each character is so realistic that&I feel like saying that Danny Cartwright packed a powerful performance out there. Danny Cartwright, the protagonist, he is an illiterate Brit who has been charged for the murder of his brother-in-law to be and best friend Bernie Wilson. Danny has these two cell mates of his which I found really interesting - Big Al and Nick.
As we all know Jeffrey Archer has himself been to Belmarsh for perjury so his description of Belmarsh is par excellence. The way Archer depicts every event of Danny’s in jail(the time when legends of fellow inmates are passed on, the time when his fiancée, Elizabeth Wilson comes to visit him and the tough laws of prison)
The involvement of drugs and cigarettes in the prison is just appalling. I mean Danny has to pay 10 Marlboro cigarettes to get the hair cut he wants a.s.a.p. All this kind of reminded me of the film Con Air.
I wont be touching the plot because I want it to be a complete surprise. Just wanted you to know that this is an astounding novel and you should go ahead and read it.
