The topic of the review is the tagline of the latest Tamil Release Priyasakhi starring Madhavan and Sada. Wait, this movie is also being filmed in Hindi as Shaadi Karke Phas Gaya Yaar (SKPGY) with Salman and Shilpa Shetty in the lead. The Tamil version is released and the hindi version is yet to be released. K.S.Adhiyamans Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam, a remake of Tamil movie Thotta Chinungi focussed on the relationship between a doubtful husband and wife after marriage. Priyasakhi or SKPGY also falls in the same genre but the main focus here is on the cultural differences between husband and wife which makes them suffer after their LOVE marriage.
Human relationships are the most obscure of all. The movie is more like a welcome relief because of the way the story has been handled. Though it gets cliched and predictable, what makes the story watchable is the way story moves and the natural acting by the lead stars. Many would disagree with me but I thoroughly enjoyed the movie.
Coming to the story
Sakhi (Madhavan) belongs to an orthodox upper middle class family (a big family). Priya (Sada) belongs to a very rich family and her mother (Played by Ishwarya) is spoilt herself and goes to bar, and other high class society parties while her father is henpecked. On an official work, Sakhi goes to dubai. He meets Priya and falls head over heels in love with her. The love blossoms between the two in an interesting manner and they decide to marry. Whether Priya is able to cope up with the Sakhis family and whether they have a happy married life forms the crux of the story.
Analysis
The movie starts off pretty well with Anbu Alaipayuthe song and the initial reels are really fast and interesting. The initial encounters between Sakhi and Priya are enchanting and keeps you hooked to the seats. The way Sakhi tries to win over Priya has been handled differently and the love story doesnt drag much and culminates at the right time.
The trouble brews slowly in the family when they get married. The scenes where Priya comes with her night gown to the hall and the scene after that when she says that she will adjust looks natural. Ditto for the scene when she confronts Sakhi for giving the necklace to his sister. The attitude of Priya to have Sakhi for herself has been beautifully portrayed on screen. Of course any wife will want the husband to spend more time with her and in depicting those scenes, the director succeeds.
The pre-interval scene when she goes with her mom without knowing her moms intention and Sakhis anger is convincing. Post-interval, the story actually picks up with more tension built-up between the spouses. The restaurant scene, Priyas anxiety about her Bday wish, and most importantly the Party scene where Priya finds out that Sakhi has impressed her by reading her personal diary are noteworthy.
The story even goes a step further with divorce agreement, and Sakhis plead to give protection to his unborn child in the courtroom is handled effectively. The slow realization of Priya after initial hatred for both the child and her husband could have been still more gripping but definitely the director has handled it sensitively. The comedy scenes with Kovai Sarala could have been edited for a better flow.
The climax could have been still better but probably the justification that Sakhi gives makes the film more stronger.
Messages from the movie
Husbands..... Give more time and space to your wife.
Wives.... Never hear to others, think your mind and act.
Love marriages.... then be ready for any sort of adjustments and compromises that you might have to face after marriage.
Performances
Sada is the hero of the film with more scope to perform and her histrionics in some scenes is just perfect. She is an absolute delight on screen bringing to the fore the complexity of the character who cannot differentiate her upbringing and her married life. As many of you know, Tamil heroines have dubbing artist and I would like to mention the name of Savitha without whose voice modulation, Priyas character would have sank without trace. Sadas expressions are excellent and she looks simply ravishing in most of the scenes. Glamour quotient is high from her side and she doesnt overact in any scene!!!
Madhavan looks a bit more plump and his hair style just spoils his face. But as Sakhi, he is simply outstanding. His angry outbursts at Priya and then convincing her(telling sorry da chellam), Maddy is too good. Ishwarya as Sadas mom goes overboard sometimes and the projection of a mother in such a taste will definitely shock the viewers. Prathap Pothan as Sadas dad is good as henpecked husband and his role is very small yet he makes his presence felt. Kovai Sarala as the police constable doesnt impress at all. Others are apt. Director K.S.Adhiyaman has done a clean job and has given a decent entertainer with a thought-provoking message.
Songs
The other backbone of the movie is the songs. Mudhal Mudhal is excellent and so is Priyasakhi which comes in the latter half. Kangalinaal is a peppy number and the other two tracks gel well with the mood of the film. The songs are definitely not a hindrance to the films flow and doesnt pop out unnecessarily. Great job by Bharadwaj.
Verdict
A feel good entertainer with some strong and light moments. The movie will definitely do well with family audiences. This movie is definitely worth watching.
8 on 10 for the messages and the story handling and more importantly for Sada!
