OK I know that I’m going to be ripped apart after writing this BUT I had to write this.
Pulp Fiction is one movie I honestly thought I owed it to myself to see , given the (nearly) unanimous high ratings it received in this venue and elsewhere. I needed to find out what all the hype was about. What a terrible disappointment. Everybody harps about this film being a modern classic and how rapturous they are about Tarantino’s work. They’ll look at you as a complete weirdo for not seeing this ’’ masterpiece ’’ and will end up telling you the whole thing scene by scene But Excuse me .........for me It’s the most overrated movie I’ve ever watched.
Oh but How dare you say that. OK you must be some dumb nutwit who couldn’t understand this and appreciate it’s coolness. Don’t you know that Quentin Tarantino is God and and his movies are greatest thing ever put on films. Good God the world is full of so many dumb people! How could they possibly not like ’Pulp Fiction’? It’s so impossible to find that anyone with a brain cell to possibly not like this movie. Come on.........give we lessor mortals a break.
I am a huge film fan and this film has really upset me by the complete pointlessness of it. As if it even teaches us anything about redemption, it is just an excuse for excessive violence, drug taking and swearing. This doesn’t bother me if it is actually relevant to the film, sadly here it is basically all the film has to offer and what bugs me most is how this movie has made out to be a cult. So killing people mercilessly , Calling Black people Nigger, treating them like s**t is cool. Two common thugs murder while mocking religious scriptures, then they accidently murder another and are more concerned about the stains in the car upholstery? What kind of story is this, and why is it considered entertainment? And this film is supposed to be one of the best movies of all time?
I’m no prude and I’m certainly not a saint, but this is the kind of rubbish that give the US and Hollywood a black eye. This is a disturbing film and a sad commentary on the decline of the audience tastes.
I wouldn’t have cared and bothered to write this review if this was just another movie that became a hit but it’s not and that’s why this review.
For me Pulp Fiction symbolizes most of the thing that is wrong with Western society today.
Now the brickbats............................and by the way this is my first review.
