Pulp Fiction
I would rate it as one of the best movies ever made, with a great plot and a host of wonderful characters. Violence is not glorified over here, but is shown explicitly. Probably, after Kubericks Clockwork Orange, its one of the few movies which hit you on the face.
The Plot
Its one hell of a movie, 3 different plots folding into one, when you see the violence, you wonder whether you have to laugh or cry. 3 threads folding into one single stream, blending (almost) effortlessly.
The opening scene is that of a restaurant hold up, and the movie ends over there. I couldnt figure out in what chronological order the story flows, but believe me, it doesnt matter, you are throughly entertained.
There were times when you get bit confused, but your doubts are clarified immediately in the next scene, as if Tarantino had anticipated and planned this the whole way.
Characters & Performances
Some of the main characters are:
John Travolta Vincent
Samuel Jackson Jules
Uma Thurman Mia
Bruce Willis Butch
Great performances by Samuel Jackson, Travolta. Cameo by Tarantino where by he shows that world that he is a lousy actor( we can pardon him though; as the end product, the movie is his child and is one of the greatest). I felt that Uma and Travolta had good chemistry and they dance well and that Bruces character was oozing Attitude.
But mind you some scenes are quite gory and people with a soft heart (or stomach) may find it bit unsettling. Particularly when Mia is over-dosed with crack and they have to drive an injection straight into her heart, Ringo accidently killing the black boy etc etc
I was so impressed by the performances and the movie that I tried to memorise the famous Ezekiel passage from the Bible which is frequently quoted by Jackson(Jules). I was not successful. But I have kept it with me since. Its as follows:
Ezekiel 25:17
The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides with the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who in the name of charity and good will shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brothers keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon those with great vengeance and with furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know that my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee.
In fact this is not really from Ezekiel, only the first sentence and the last sentence may be found (in fact I have searched the same in the Bible and was not able to find it)
All said and done, its a great movie, which happens once in a blue moon.
