I have been born and brought up in Mumbai. I’ve been visiting Pune since I was a toddler. I loved coming to heree because, I enjoyed the peace and tranquility of the place and the greenary around, which I could not find in my hometown Mumbai. I used to put up at Jangli Maharaj Road then, during my ocassional visits and I found the place exciting as well.
But today, if I talk anything about Pune either to a Mumbaiite or a Puneite it is always the bad things that get reflected. Puneites may boost of pieces of papers showing off their degrees from various educational institutes but, when it comes to discipline, civic sense and observing traffic rules the average Puneite fails miserably.
The fact that yesterday at Balgandharva Chowk in a span of 8 hours there were 3000 traffic offences is a big shame to any city. The habit Puneites have of comparing the city with Mumbai is too far fetched. Mumbai is too big yet a disciplined city and mind you it has a heart too. There is always someone who gives you a helping hand in public places when you are in need of it unlike, Puneites who appear very selfish in public places and I can quote examples for this too.
May be it’s about time Puneites realize that it is not just a great historic past and culture that make a city great and liveable. It is the attitude of an average citizen towards the other which make a lot off difference. Come on friends, this city deserves the best from its citizens and the civic authorities alike.
