Luckily for me, I made it to Bangalore last weekend to watch Iron Maidens perform live. This was my first visit to Garden City and I truly loved the place. Leaving aside my initial disappointment for transportation within the city and curfew of 11:00 PM, the place just rocks. I had heard alot about Purple Haze from Bangalore friends back in Mumbai. Hence I decided to go there post the concert. However, as mentioned earlier, the rigid deadline in the city compels Purple Haze to serve the last drink at 10:45 PM. It is way to early comparing it to Mumbai standard time. Anyways, I had to postpone my visit to Sunday and after reaching the destination I was spellbound.
I went to PH(Purple Haze) at around 2:00 PM and was surprised to find the place closed to packed.High Hopes by Floyd was being screened on the big T.V they have. Actually there are 3 monitors-2 small 21 Inch sets and this one big screen where they play live rock videos and all time rock numbers. So if Rock music is your taste then this one hangout is a must visit. We got ourselves a nice seat, in the center almost. The place has this U-shaped seating and very low chairs. The walls have this stained paintings of popular Rock legends and guitars .The Jimi Hendrix one was especially my favourite one. After settling down comes my best part of any outing- ordering the drinks and munchies. The regular drinks like whisky, vodka is priced at around Rs 85/- for 30 ml, the mocktails start at Rs 100/- and the cocktails value Rs 180/- above depending on the base you choose. We ordered a pitcher of beer for Rs.210/-, a screwdriver Rs .180/- and mocktail for a teetoler friend priced Rs 120/- . Chezlings are served complimentary with the drinks. The snacks looked delicious on adjoining tables but I would reserve my comments on same as we stuck to french fries and I didnt eat anything.
The music was a complete high and there was a group actually head banging below the gaint screen. However, the management stops the music between 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM.So if you are with a boring company then you will be left watching VH1 on the small screens. However in my case my pals and me had a great time.We spent less than 3 hours but had a awesome time indeed. One can also buy Purple Haze Tees only for Rs .150/- .Its unfortunate that except for Hardrock Cafe which is too expensive for mid income people like me to make it a regular hangout, Mumbai city cannot boast of any pubs like Purple haze, Le Rock . PH served good music, had a lively crowd so it hardly felt like it was a hot Sunday afternoon outside!
